In 2019, Swiss International Health Care together with the German Cancer Society successfully introduced the world's currently largest and best functioning cancer center system in China. The certification of the first colorectal cancer center according to German standards was completed in Shanghai. Certification work is now underway for a number of other diagnoses.
The German Cancer Society is the largest oncology society in Germany. It is committed to cancer care based on evidence-based medicine and interdisciplinarity and represents Germany in international organizations such as the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL) and the European Union. In 2008, it was involved in the initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Health on the National Cancer Plan and has since then advocated for the establishment of a 3-stage model for cancer care according to the National Cancer Plan. This model is based on certified centers, namely a network of certified inpatient and outpatient facilities in which all disciplines involved in the treatment of cancer patients work closely together. In addition to surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, pharmaceutical oncologists and other specialists, the network also includes oncology nurses, psychooncologists and social workers. To date, more than 2,000 cancer centers have been certified by the German Cancer Society. They are located not only throughout Europe, but also in Asia, making them the world's largest cancer treatment network.
